At the Biomagnetics Laboratory in the Dept. of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering of VCU, we conduct latest research on the applications of magnetic materials and devices in biomedical engineering. Biomagnetism is the main research focus of our group which has tremendous scope in solving various problems that are related to human health, especially in neurological interventions.

We are a team of young, enthusiastic and dedicated researchers working on the development of magnetic devices and materials that will positively affect life of millions of people suffering from many neurological disorders.

Under Biomagnetism, we currently focus on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) research and biomedical application of room temperature ferromagnetic rare-earth nanoparticles. We closely collaborate with the Dept. of Neurosurgery, Dept. of Neurology and Dept. of Psychiatry of VCU School of Medicine to develop new transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment procedures for patients with various neurological disorders.

Our other research focus is on room temperature ferromagnetic rare earth nanoparticles for biomedical and energy harvesting applications. We have developed first self-regulated hyperthermia and T2 contrast agent based on ferromagnetic gadolinium silicide nanoparticles. We have recently developed thin film composites of magnetic nanoparticles and PVDF for energy harvesting that have higher piezoelectric constant than PVDF alone.
